Confessions of a Front Garden Flower Thief

Whenever I go for a walk, I normally pick a few flowers to take home and offer on my altar. When I was younger, I used to do it with my Dad, and I would feel bad sometimes about picking from someone else’s bush. He used to tell me that if it hung over a public pathway then it was ok, but I wasn’t entirely convinced. Now I think I agree. Besides, what better way to use a flower, than to offer it back to the person who created it? A friend from Mauritius told me that the almost all Mauritians have this attitude, and if you go to anyone’s home and say you want to pick some flowers for worship, they will nearly always say yes. I don’t think I’d ever try that here. For now, it’s the quick, surreptitious, ‘pick and stroll’. Here’s today’s spoils: buddleia, mock orange, roses and UWFs (Unidentifiable White Flowers).
